In Buenos Aires, on January 29, a Paraguayan carpenter was murdered by thieves who attempted to steal his motorcycle as he was returning from work in the Buenos Aires locality of Gregorio de Laferrere. Police sources informed the Argentine News Agency that the victim was identified as 63-year-old Milciades Torrez Oviedo, who was returning to his home in the La Matanza district after working in the City of Buenos Aires. The carpenter was at the intersection of Juan Cruz Varela and Hilario Ascasu streets when four criminals on two motorcycles crossed his path to steal his vehicle, a red Honda Twister, which is highly sought after by thieves. Apparently, the assailants shot Torrez Oviedo in the head, who died instantly, although the criminals did not take the motorcycle and fled the scene quickly. The victim's wife, Rosa Elba Santander, arrived at the crime scene as she lives less than three blocks away and provided details of where her husband was returning from. Neighbors heard the gunshot and came out to see what was happening, finding the deceased victim. Police from the La Matanza Police Station and the local station were conducting raids in the neighborhood to find the killers.
